Joseph Davies
My name is Joseph Davies, and I come from a small town called Southport in the North West of England. I am an enthusiastic, dedicated and hardworking university business lecturer who thrives upon moral principles and endeavour. I have been teaching in China for several years now, initially in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province at China University of Mining and Technology. I currently teach in Guangzhou at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.
I co-ordinate two modules on the MIB programme; International Business English in semester one andReadingand Negotiation in semester two. I also teach Business English at undergraduate level to students who are preparing to complete their degrees at partner universities in the United Kingdom, the USA and Canada. Furthermore, I have acted as a consultant for the Foreign Investment Team of the Guangzhou Municipal Government at Nansha. This involved training the government officials and lecturing them in International Business English and advising them on a number of different matters related to gaining foreign investment within the Nansha area.
I have developed strong leadership skills through my previous work experience and am very comfortable working within a multicultural team. Teaching in China has broadened my horizons and has allowed me to develop my knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. I am fascinated by Chinese culture and thoroughly enjoy adapting to everyday life in such a diverse country.
In my spare time I thoroughly enjoy both participating in and watching sports. My favourite sport is football and my favourite team is Liverpool FC. In conjunction with my undergraduate degree I studied for a certificate in intermediate Spanish and am currently studying on an intermediate Chinese Mandarin course. In fact, I recently read a statistic that if you can speak English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese then you will be able to communicate with 66% of the world’s population.
One of my passions in life is travelling and I am fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to travel to many places throughout the world. Within China some of my favourite places I have visited are: Beijing, Qufu, Qingdao, Yangshuo, Xian, Fenghuang, Longsheng, Hong Kong and Macau to name but a few. Furthermore I have also had the pleasure of travelling to some spectacular places throughout the world such as: India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, America and Europe. I truly believe that travelling and experiencing other cultures is one of the greatest forms of education.
